Julia E. Seaman, PhD

Julia E Seaman

Dr. Seaman has extensive experience in survey research as well as competitive intelligence and translational research. She has worked and published across a wide range of qualitative and quantitative projects.

Along with her publications at Bay View Analytics, Dr. Seaman’s projects include publishing on statistical practices in ASQ, and consulting for several biotechnology start-ups. Dr. Seaman has published in scientific, statistical, and quality control journals, including Cell Death and Differentiation, BMC Anesthesiology, and Journal of Quality Progress, as well as serving as statistical and scientific reviewer for BMC journals and UCSF Health Awards.

Dr. Seaman earned her doctorate in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacogenomics from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Her research focused on improving healthcare outcomes through optimized treatments utilizing new technologies and analytical techniques. After completing her PhD, she moved into healthcare consulting, working with leading biotechnology companies as a strategy and competitive intelligence partner.

I. Elaine Allen

Dr. Allen collaborates in research in applied statistics including clinical and basic science, and teaches multivariate statistics, analytics & data visualization, and meta-analysis at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Dr. Allen has founded and held executive positions in several healthcare and biotechnology companies including founding StatSystems, a medical device company, and ARIAD Pharmaceuticals. She serves on the scientific advisory boards of Catalyst at UCSF and several biotechnology and fintech start-ups.

Dr. Allen earned her doctorate in Statistics from Cornell University, and is a fellow of the American Statistical Association. At UCSF she has been named Consultant of the Year for multiple years. With Dr. Jeff Seaman, Babson Survey Research Group (now Bay View Analytics) received the Alfred P. Sloan Director's Award for outstanding research in online education. In 2020, her research on discrimination by real estate agents, in collaboration with NY Newsday, received a Peabody Award, and the Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative journalism.


Nate Ralph

Nate Ralph

Nate Ralph is a writer and editor with extensive experience in print and online media, and executive and corporate communications. His work has appeared in numerous technology, business, and culture publications, include CNET, The Verge, PCWorld, and Wired.

Most recently, Nate has worked on the Communications team at Dropbox, in San Francisco. As Senior Writer, Nate wrote and edited marketing and technical blogs, and worked with senior executives to create content for blogs and internal communications, as well as prepare talking points for press appearances and other media events. As Analyst Relations Coordinator, he worked with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, and executives, to brief industry analysts.


Jeff Seaman, PhD

Jeff Seaman

Dr. Jeff Seaman has worked in education information technology for over 20 years, and holds degrees in Demography/Statistics, Sociology, Electrical Engineering, and Housing, all from Cornell University. He has taught social science, information technology and statistics at several colleges and universities, including Cornell University, the University of Wisconsin, the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, and Babson College.

Dr. Seaman created and ran the Computing Resource Center and served as Associate Vice Provost for Computing for the University of Pennsylvania and as Chief Information Officer for Lesley University. His industry experience includes serving as Chief Technology Officer at HighWired.com where he led the development of an online learning system for high schools and as the Vice President of Engineering for Vista Associates where he led the engineering team in building course management systems.

Dr. Seaman has been conducting research in the impact of technology on higher education and K-12 for over a decade, beginning with comprehensive national studies of technology use in U.S. Higher Education. Dr. Seaman has served on academic technology advisory boards for a number of information technology companies including Apple Computer, IBM, and Microsoft.
